Olszewski Announces 2023 Series of Signature Budget Town Hall Meetings
January 19, 2023
TOWSON, MD – Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today announced his fifth annual series of signature town hall meetings to hear from constituents about their ideas and priorities for the County’s FY24 budget.
Seven meetings, one for each Council district, will provide a forum for public discussion focused on future budget priorities and ensure that community members have the opportunity to provide input into the budget planning process.
"Government works best when our residents drive the conversation and I’m so proud of our unprecedented efforts to create a more open, accessible, and responsive government,” said Olszewski. “As we begin our second term, we’re excited to hold our latest signature town hall series and continue engaging residents in every community as we keep building a better Baltimore County together.”
Olszewski’s town hall meetings mark a significant change in the way residents participate in the budget planning process; from 2016-2017, only two people testified on Baltimore County’s budget. In 2018, during his first year in office, Olszewski held the inaugural series of budget town hall meetings where over 2,000 residents attended. Even during the peak of COVID-19 pandemic, the Olszewski administration continued to hold the series, hosting virtual meetings to promote residents’ safety and wellbeing.
This year’s meetings, the first of Olszewski’s second term, will welcome the return of in-person meetings. All budget town hall meetings will also be livestreamed on Baltimore County Government’s YouTube page.
In addition, this year Baltimore County will offer residents opportunities prior to town hall meetings to engage directly with key Department leaders to learn about available resources and to ask individual questions. These Community Cabinet Open Houses will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of each town hall meeting.
