Baltimore County Highlights Suicide Prevention Resources with Courthouse Dome Lighting

Baltimore County is lighting the iconic dome atop its historic Courthouse in yellow to help bring awareness to the importance of suicide prevention efforts. The dome, first lit at dusk on Thursday, September 8, will remain lit through Sunday, September 11.
 

The glowing tribute will honor those affected by suicide and cast a spotlight on this preventable public health issue. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death in the United States among children and teens ages 10 to 19 and the second leading cause of death among individuals ages 20 to 34.

“It is imperative to raise and maintain awareness about this important, and often silent, mental health crisis,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “I implore anyone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts to remember that they are not alone and free, confidential help is only a phone call away.”

Support is available around the clock from the Baltimore County Crisis Response System at 410-931-2214. Additionally, the new Here2Help Hotline provides free and confidential assistance. Launched in July of this year, this national service is available by dialing 988. Calling this easy to remember number immediately connects individuals to emergency emotional support.
