Baltimore County to Host Information Session on Creation of Oregon Ridge Park Master Plan
TOWSON, MD — In an effort to share information and gather community input on the creation of a master plan for Oregon Ridge Park, Baltimore County Recreation and Parks will host a series of special events and meetings in the coming months, beginning with a virtual information session at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15.
Oregon Ridge Park, a popular 1,043 acre destination location, is situated in the Cockeysville area of Northern Baltimore County. The park features an outdoor amphitheater, visitors’ lodge, nature center, accessible playground, pavilions, and many miles of trails. In order to improve these features and ensure that Oregon Ridge continues to serve residents, the Department of Recreation and Parks has initiated a master planning process.
“Generations of families have enjoyed the multitude of amenities and expansive green space that Oregon Ridge Park has to offer,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “We believe investing in the park’s future is critical, so we are excited to work with the community on an Oregon Ridge Park Master Plan that will create a vision for the future that all residents can be proud of.”
The Oregon Ridge Master Plan will include evaluations of and recommendations for:
- Accessibility to transition facilities to serve County residents of all abilities
- Arts Programming to create a hub for cultural activities, public art, and performances
- Educational Programming and Facilities to help the existing Oregon Ridge Nature Center better serve Baltimore County residents
- Facility Improvements including changes to signage and parking to create better access and updates to utilities, restrooms, and buildings to enhance park users’ experiences
- Natural Resources Management to ensure the protection of forest land, rare and unusual plants, and water resources
- Recreational Activities to adapt facilities to meet modern recreational needs
Lardner/Klein Landscape Architects will facilitate the master planning process, which will include an evaluation of existing amenities within Oregon Ridge, outreach to park users and other Baltimore County residents, and recommendations for future development. The contract, public meeting schedule and timeline can be viewed on the Oregon Ridge Park Master Plan webpage.
