Baltimore County Now Offering Direct Scheduling for Vaccine Appointments
TOWSON, MD— In the latest effort to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski announced that residents can now directly schedule their appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine at all County sites.
“As we continue to make amazing progress in vaccinating our neighbors, we’re ready to move into the next phase in our fight against COVID-19. By offering on-demand scheduling, we’re making it even easier for people across Baltimore County to get their shot,” Olszewski said. “Moving forward, we’ll continue to do whatever we can to eliminate barriers to care so that everyone can easily get this free, effective, and lifesaving vaccine.”
Each week, the Baltimore County Department of Health will post a weekly vaccine schedule at www.baltimorecountymd.gov/vaccine, with a number of appointment slots. Appointments are preferred at all County locations, but will not be required.
Residents who are medically homebound and unable to travel to a vaccine clinic can email the Department of Health at COVIDVax@baltimorecountymd.gov or call the County’s COVID hotline at 410-887-3816 to schedule a vaccine.
To date, 390,000 people—over 57 percent of Baltimore County’s 16 and over population— have received at least one dose of one of the COVID-19 vaccines.
“We are not out of the woods yet,” said Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch, Director of the Baltimore County Department of Health. “Direct scheduling and on-demand vaccinations helps to accomplish our overall mission of promoting health and preventing disease through education, advocacy, linkage to care and treatment.”
Baltimore County has already taken a number of actions to expand access to the COVID-19 vaccine, including:
- Operating mass vaccination clinics in Timonium, Randallstown and Essex;
- Hosting community clinics in underserved communities in Lansdowne and Turner Station;
- Launching mobile vaccination clinics to serve targeted groups in partnership with community organizations;
- Creating a program to schedule and cover the cost for Uber rides for residents without other transportation options;
- Deploying teams to administer vaccines directly to homebound residents ; and
- Developing the "Healing Starts Here" campaign to educate residents about the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine and increase public confidence among underrepresented populations.
