Statement on Senate President Miller's Decision to Step Down

County Executive Johnny Olszewski released the following statement following today's announcement by Maryland Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller:

"President Miller's legacy cannot be overstated. He has led the Senate ably for decades, influencing every major law coming out of Annapolis during his tenure. His passion for Maryland, his skillful leadership and his colorful wit are familiar to all who walked the halls of the Statehouse in this generation, and his presence at the rostrum will be greatly missed. I am keeping him and his family in my prayers as he continues to fight for his health.

I also want to congratulate Senator Bill Ferguson on his nomination by the Democratic caucus to be the next Senate President. I'm confident in his clear and inclusive vision for the state of Maryland and know that he and Speaker Jones will be an excellent team as we enter a new era of legislative leadership in Maryland. I look forward to continue working in partnership with them both to build a better Baltimore County, region and state."
