Olszewski Announces Acquisition of 24.5 Acres in Lutherville-Timonium to Enhance Recreational Opportunities
Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski today announced that the County has acquired a 24.5 acre site located at 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, ensuring the land will continue to be available for recreational use and enhancing recreational opportunities in the Lutherville-Timonium area.
The site was purchased for $2.2 million, and the County has applied to the state for Program Open Space funds.
“Creating more space for recreational opportunities is a critical component of our efforts to improve quality of life and create vibrant communities for residents across Baltimore County,” Olszewski said. “Residents in the Lutherville-Timonium area are now assured that this significant green space will stay available for recreational activities for years — and generations — to come.”
A portion of the acquired land features baseball diamonds that have long been used by the programs of Lutherville-Timonium Recreation Council (LTRC) under a license agreement with the property owner.
The site was proposed for residential development, which would have resulted in the loss of the fields. The County’s acquisition of the site secures permanent public recreation access and will allow for additional improvements to increase available recreational opportunities.
“Constituents living in this area have long been concerned about encroaching development that threatened to eliminate these fields, including the last zoning cycle. I am pleased that these fields will now be preserved in perpetuity for recreation,” Councilman Wade Kach said. “Thank you to County Executive Olszewski and his team for his partnership on this, as we continue to expand and improve recreational opportunities in the central area of Baltimore County.”
The acquisition also preserves additional green space in close proximity to the Loch Raven Reservoir Watershed, including an approximately 1,100 foot length of stream.
The acquisition of the land was approved by the County Council in May 2021.
