Microchipping Services for Pets
Microchipping is a quick and nearly painless procedure that provides permanent tracking information and identification that can't be lost, worn out or damaged. It's inserted by injecting a small chip between your pet's shoulder blades. Every animal adopted from the shelter gets microchipped. Watch a video guide to microchip implantation from Found Animals.
Should your pet be lost, special scanners read the chip, which can be traced to the manufacturer and then to your name, address and phone number.
Microchipping is not a substitute for animal licensing, which is required by law in Baltimore County.
GET YOUR PET MICROCHIPPED
Baltimore County pet owners can bring their dogs and cats to the shelter to receive the microchipping service for a low-cost fee of $10. To schedule an appointment, please call 410-887-PAWS (7297).
UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION
It's critical to regularly update your contact information.
There's no universal microchip registry. If your pet was microchipped by the Baltimore County Animal Shelter, you can update your contact information by logging into the Found Animals registry. If you don't know the number or manufacturer of your pet's microchip, please see your veterinarian. We encourage you to update this information as a regular part of your pet's healthcare regimen.
